Dance Pictures by Richard Young

The Last Dance
Framed £500
2001 23x31cm HP Arches Mixed media (watercolour, gouache, wax crayon)

This picture and the one that follows were done at the same sitting. Inspired by the work of Steve Reich both images are a variant on the same scene. The ballerinas sort of float around in my mind.

Dreaming '72
Framed £500
2001 23x31cm HP Arches Mixed media (watercolour, gouache, wax crayon)

The works are in fact preparations for larger oil paintings. I concentrate on developing the textures mixing the media and lifting the colour using wax crayons, sometimes water soluble sometimes resistant.

The joker and the thief
Framed £500
2001 23x31cm HP Arches Mixed media (watercolour, gouache, wax crayon)

Jimi Hendrix inspired this work with his 'All along the Watchtower'. I kept a mental reference to an earlier work that was inspired by the starting ceremony of the 1990 Barcelona Olympics where these fantastic puppets and dancing figures reacted to the most wonderful music.

Assassins
Unframed £300
2001 23x31cm HP Arches Mixed media (watercolour, gouache, wax crayon)

Francis Bacon's triptychs inspired this image, he referenced the fighting men in Eedweard Muybridge in the 1969 work. Although to me the image is more about dance, I kept on seeing the figures as assassins as in the ancient times.

Soldier's darkness
£350
1999 40x30cm Canvas board Acrylic

Night clubs, dancing, heat, bright lights, sweat, hunting; these are the senses that I associate with this painting.

Influenced by Picasso.
